UPU's History
The Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) was founded in February 2001 as a private tertiary education Institution known at the Grotius School of Law Professional Studies and commenced its operations in 2001 when it admitted its first students in law at its campus in Mengo, Kampala. Initially, it operated as an independent institution affiliated to Busoga University but having separate management.

The institution continued to operate as such until July 2004, when the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) directed it to register as a separate institution. This directive was based on the fact that Busoga University was a young University with provisionally licensed institution could not affiliate another institution nor nurture it optimally.
After a long period of preparation and negotiations, the school was renamed Uganda Pentecostal University which was registered with the Registry of Companies as a company limited by guarantee with its headquarters in Fort Portal in Kabarole District. In September 2005, the University obtained a provisional license to operate as a University. The University became one of the few recognized by the Law Council to teach approved law courses.
