UPU Law Students Reach National Finals as Both Fort Portal and Kampala Campuses Make Their Mark

Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) has once again demonstrated its growing strength in legal education after putting up an impressive performance at the 2026 CEHURD National Moot Court Competition, which brought together 17 universities from across Uganda.

The competition provided law students with an opportunity to move beyond the classroom and experience the realities of courtroom advocacy. Teams competed through different stages, progressing from the High Court to the Court of Appeal and ultimately the Supreme Court, with proceedings presided over by real judicial officers.

For UPU Fort Portal, the journey was one of determination, preparation and resilience. The team successfully navigated the different stages of the competition and earned a place in the grand final, where they faced IUIU in a fiercely contested final.

The final was presided over by an eminent panel of judicial officers, including His Lordship Justice Geoffrey Wilfred Kiryabwire, Her Ladyship Justice Eva K. Luswata, His Lordship Retired Justice Stephen Martin Egonda Ntende, and Her Ladyship Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala.

Arguing before such an experienced panel was a significant opportunity for the students, exposing them to the level of preparation, courtroom discipline and advocacy expected in higher courts.

After a closely fought final, UPU Fort Portal emerged as the second-best university in the competition—an achievement that placed the University among the strongest performers out of the 17 participating universities.

The success was not limited to the Fort Portal Campus.

The UPU Kampala Campus also did the University proud by securing third position for Best Memorials in the competition. The recognition is a testament to the quality of legal research, writing and analytical skills being developed among UPU law students.

A Growing Name in Legal Education

The results are more than positions on a competition table. They reflect the growing confidence, preparation and determination of UPU’s law students and the commitment of the University to practical legal education.

Through mooting, students are given the opportunity to research complex legal questions, develop persuasive arguments, respond to questions from the bench and appreciate the demands of actual courtroom practice.

The performance of both campuses therefore sends a clear message: Uganda Pentecostal University is steadily making its mark among Uganda’s universities in legal education, advocacy and mooting.

The University congratulates the Fort Portal moot team, the Kampala Campus memorial team, their coaches and coordinators, as well as everyone who contributed to this achievement.
